Samsung Shows Off First Curved Display Phone, the Galaxy Round
Samsung has just released the Galaxy Round, the first mobile phone with a curved display, likely the beginning of a trend toward devices that actually fit our faces (and pockets). The Round has been highlighted on their global product blog, as well as on Technorati top listing TechCrunch.
Although there is only a very slight bending of the display, its visual effect has been increased as Samsung has tapered both sides of the phone to be very thin. This tapering has allowed the phone, when placed on a table, to be tilted in one direction or another.
While the phone is sleeping, tilting it toward you will display the date, time, battery life, emails awaiting your attention, and missed calls. Basically, a phone status panel. Release the phone and the display turns back off immediately.
The tilting is also put into play while listening to music on the Galaxy Round. You can push down on one side of the phone or another to shuffle through songs, if you'd like.
The phone features a 5.7 inch Super AMOLED screen, placing it in the phablet category. Because of its size, according to TechCrunch, the phone allows for multi-screen operation and customization of the corners for easy-to-reach controls
